The Department of Landscape, Water and Infrastructure, Institute of Transport Studies is currently seeking a

Postgraduate Research Associate
project employment

Extent of employment: 30 hours per week
Duration of employment: May 2025, limited to April 2027 (with option for temporary extension)
Workplace: 1190 Vienna
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1
Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 2.786,10 (payable 14 times per year)

Responsibilities

  • Independent research contribution (dissertation project) to the development of an optimization and microsimulation system to evaluate the impacts of different charging and autonomous freight transport technologies in the SEE-FAr project funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF)
  • Application of these methods to evaluate and develop optimal freight charging location strategies for technology scenarios for the Bavaria-Austria region
  • Working closely together with the transport modelling team from TU Munich
  • Publication in internationally renowned journals and in specialist journals and participation in national and international conferences
  • Participation in the acquisition of research funds
  • Contribution to the instituts’s daily research and administrative tasks
  • There will be the opportunity to contribute to further teaching and learning activities

Required skills and qualifications

  • Diploma degree in Computer science, GIS, optimization research, transportation engineering, (engineering) physics or similar quantitative field
  • Language skills: English
  • Experience/training in (multi-agent or transport or related) optimization and computer simulation
  • Interest in mobility behaviour and transportation

Desirable skills and qualifications

  • Experience in transport/freight simulation is a strong merit
  • Some German language skills is a plus
  • Experience with large GPS datasets and any other programming skills are an asset
